WHY STEPHANIE FARR IS QUALIFIED TO TAKE ON PROJECT REFLECT

Where there's a will, there's a way: to describe Miss Farr as tenacious is an understatement...
Which is one of many qualities making Stephanie the perfect person to build this project. From transversing the continent (more than once) with her entire life shoved into a U-haul, to insisting on using individual laser-cut letters to create entire walls of text, she has what it takes to get the job done!

We asked her to describe what qualities she possesses that will most help her see a project of this caliber through to fruition . Below is her reply:

1.) Not Afraid to Say What Everyone Else is Thinking.

“Stephanie, MOUTH!”

This was repeated by my mother so often throughout my childhood, there was a period of time I thought ‘mouth’ was my middle name. With the persistence of my wonderful mother, however, I have discovered that there is a time and place for things in life, and if wielded properly, my ‘mouth’ is actually an aptitude.

2.) Have Been Managing and Actively Involved in Creative Group Projects Since the Age of Five. Literally.

My inaugural year of public education was only half a day: morning kindergarten. This left afternoons wide open! With all the new friends I was making, it wasn’t long before the Thursday Afternoon Art Club was founded. From paper doily hats to grocery sack dresses, every week we had a new project that inevitably would leave the dining room table coated with glitter, sequins and Elmers.

What this early blip on the radar screen represents is my innate desire to bring people together with art. Thirty years later I am finally beginning to understand what, some how, my little 5-year-old heart was born knowing: Art is the distillation of emotion into physical form. It is a universal language that helps us connect to each other in ways that give us meaning-- across divides we never imagined we could bridge. Through art we expand the breadth of our own experiences by breaking down barriers with emotional connection.

3.) Exceptional Organizational Skills.

The environment I inhabit may look like chaos from time to time, but if you ask anyone who knows me, they will assure you it is very well-ordered chaos. Whenever i begin a new project or step, a clean work space is mandatory. From my beloved collection of heavy duty storage drawers to my label-maker, putting things away relaxes me. It clears the space of visual clutter ensuring me that next time I need a tool or object, I’ll be able to find it. But it isn’t just in the physical world; spreadsheets, calendars, renderings, sketches, archives, web pages, social media. The amount of information and data already disseminated on-line representing this project could only be the result of countless hours of planning and preparation. Each bit uploaded, cross-loaded or downloaded from one single archive that continues growing exponentially… which brings us to my next qualification:

4.) Knowing When I Don’t Know.

Any good leader is humble. They should be cognizant of their aptitudes, but keenly aware of their shortcomings. The former being a gift, the latter being the opportunity to learn. I believe physical manifestation is the education of the soul; through the separation of embodiment we discover the wonderment of connection. When we are connected, anything is possible...

5.) Have More Passion Than a 1980s Romance Novel

And in the end, passion is what drives the world. The greatest innovations, creations and inventions throughout history are the result of passionate pursuit. To risk it all, to put it all on the line, because you believe in an idea, is both the most frightening and rewarding thing a person can do. It brings meaning to the emotional dance of manifestation, enabling us to accomplish even our wildest dreams!
